Winegrowing can be a riddle. But there isn’t always a clear answer. Sometimes things go as you expect. Sometimes you question everything you know. The 2022 vintage was marked by unpredictability, with both unusually warm and unexpectedly cold conditions. What began as an uncertain year ultimately became one of the best in decades. This wine shows the affinity of Roussanne and Marsanne in the Okanagan – with 1% Viognier for good measure.
SUB-REGION
Osoyoos West Bench
Osoyoos West Bench is one of the few locations ideally suited to Rhône whites in the Okanagan Valley. There is no shortage of sunlight and heat, but it largely comes from morning to midday, protected by Mt. Kobau from the intense afternoon sun. This allows the fruit to achieve beautiful ripeness, while retaining a good amount of freshness.
SOIL
Osoyoos sandy loam
Grown on sandy loam fluvioglacial deposits from melting glacier water outwash, the soils are low vigour and well-draining, resulting in grapes with excellent concentration.
ELEVATION
300-305m
The gentle slope down to Osoyoos Lake mitigates the severity of winter on a variety that is very susceptible to cold injury.

"This is a new label by Okanagan Master of Wine Geoff Moss. It is from a single vineyard site in West Osoyoos - a blend of roussanne and marsanne, two varieties that thrive in the south of France. It was aged in oak and stainless steel. It has an open, ample and complete nose with yellow plum, peach and lemon, florals and subtle wood spice, which comes across more on the finish. It is full bodied, plush, warm and sweet-edged with outstanding fruit intensity and length. It was made at Winemakers CUT, a new winery based at the District Wine Village in Osoyoos. "Can't imagine Geoffrey Moss M.W.'s choice of wording is in ode to Limp Bizkit's fourth studio album, though you jst never know and with this rather dubious first Rhône-ish Blanc he might say "Gimme the Mic." Perhaps also "Red Light-Green Light" because along with his first kick at syrah the pair signal the arrival of two important wines onto the Okanagan, British Columbian and Canadian markets. Results May Vary is a joint roussanne-marsanne with a gently swaying mix of optimism, optimally ripe fruit and the sweet support of stride for stride acidity. Dutiful march up the sides of the jawline and across the palate with each green grape providing, integrating and then connecting for equal contributive proportion. Terrific effort for this dual purposed nexus of Rhône varieties done up with distinction as a promise of the Okanagan Valley. Can’t wait to try this again, but also future iterations that will surely evolve towards the profound, one subtle step at a time. Drink 2025-2027. Tasted January 2025."
"Soren is a project by BC-based MW Geoffrey Moss, and this wine a classic northern Rhône-style blend of roussanne and marsanne from the southern Okanagan Valley, and specifically an Osoyoos West Bench site protected from the worst of the afternoon heat by Mount Kobau allowing for ripe flavours but a fairly modest 13% alcohol declared. While results may vary, the 2022 is an unqualified success, tacking in a creamy, ripe, broad, orchard fruit-flavoured direction; I love the creamy, billowing texture, silky and pure, with abundant fruit and an notable absence of oak intrusion (aged 10% in new oak, and 40% each in old oak and stainless steel). Length is excellent. I have to say, this is accomplished and complete wine, remarkable for a first release. Looking forward to more from this project. Snap up these bottles before the rest catch on and the price rises. Tasted January 2025."
